So this isn’t my usual Toddler-inspired post. But as many other Pinterest addicts I pin….welll….everything, so I thought you might like to see some of my other Pinterest-inspired activities. This one is just for Teacher Mumma!
I think it’s quite well known amongst my family and friends that I LOVE chai lattes. And I have been getting my supply from the local supermarket, until they stopped stocking the “Lite” version…grr! So my options are to go to two supermarkets, stopped drinking Chai Lattes (gasp!) or find an alternative. Well thanks to my pins at Pinterest I found a solution:
There recipe is listed as:
“Homemade Vanilla Chai Tea Mix
1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
1 cup French vanilla powdered non-dairy creamer
2 ½ cups white sugar (I used 1 1/2 cups)
1 ½ cups unsweetened instant tea
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground cardamom (I omitted)
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp allspice
¼ tsp white pepper
Combine all ingredients in a food processor/blender and blend until it is a fine powder. This may need to be done in two or three separate batches. Add two-three tablespoons of mix to 8 ounces of hot water or milk. Enjoy!”
This was my original pin, but my sticking point was the “Instant Tea” – what the? As far as I know this doesn’t exist in Australia! So what to do…?
DIY natural had the solution. Make a normal cup of tea, complete with tea bag, and then just add the chai latte mixture in! Too easy!!
So here are my original ingredients and my altered recipe:
1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
1 cup French vanilla powdered non-dairy creamer Also not available in Australia so I just added another 1/2 cup of powdered non-dairy creamer (with the thought I could add more if I needed it, which it didn’t appear so)
2 ½ cups white sugar (I used 1 1/2 cups)
1 ½ cups unsweetened instant tea
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground cardamom
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp allspice
¼ tsp white pepper
So easy – dumped it all in the food processor.
And VOILA! Homemade Chai Latte – yummo!!
